Compiègne
Compiègne Château
Compiègne Cloisters We have a row of vines in Champagne, through 3D Wines, so it was time to pop over to France to pick up some of our own Champagne.  Of course we made a trip out of it, and spent a few days touring Northern France.

Compiègne Château, above, was built for Napoleon I, as a small weekend retreat, so he could live like the peasants.

Compiègne is also famous for the Armistice signing of WWI.

Laon Pierrefonds
Laon Cathedral
We'd stopped at Laon before, so we knew it was a good place to stay the night.
Pierrefonds Château
Couldn't resist stopping the car for this view, even though we were already late to pick up our Champagne.

Amiens
Amiens Cathedral Amiens Cathedral is the largest Gothic church in France, It's said that Paris's Notre Dame Cathedral could fit inside it.

Saint-Leu, below, was called My Little Venice by Napoleon I.

Amiens also boasts the Hortillonnages, former marshland, now market gardens accessible only by canal.
