Warkworth Castle
Warkworth has been my most favourite castle ever since I can remember.  We used to come here for picnics when I was a child.  It's a great castle to explore, with lots of "nooks and crannies" to hide in.

Woodhorn

Woodhorn CollieryThe first coal from Woodhorn Colliery was drawn in 1898 and the last in 1981.  Now the land around the mine was been reclaimed and forms the Queen Elizabeth II Park.

The mine buildings now form the Woodhorn Colliery Museum (opened in 1989), which tries to show how coal mining dominated the landscape of the area and the lives of the local people.

There are also other exhibitions - when we visited in August 2000 there were displays of traditional clothing from the area on loan from a local inhabitant and also an area dedicated to a fascinating interactive exhibition of the Lindisfarne Chronicles.
