Nadi |
Arriving in Fiji, even in the middle of the night, is an
experience. You are greeted by a group of serenading musicians, and presented with a
garland of shells. We stayed for a couple of nights at the Fiji Mocambo Hotel, arriving
in darkness meant that we had to wait until morning to take in the view from our patio,
shown on the right. |

The Swami Temple in Nadi
Nadi (pronounced Nan-di) is the major town on the west of the main Fijian island of
Viti Levu. It's a busy town with many shopping opportunities. Visiting
Nadi was our first real chance to meet the Fijian people and although we had read about
how welcoming Fijians were we were still amazed at how true this was, and the traditional
greeting of "Bula" was given everywhere we went. |
Sailing Safari |
Denarau Harbour |
The highlight of our stay in Fiji was the Sailing
Safari with Captain Cook Cruises aboard the Spirit of the Pacific shown here
on the right. We sailed from Denarau to The Yasawa Islands for the three day trip. |
Sailing Safari |
Sonaisali |
|
We ended the Fijian leg of our trip at the Sonaisali Island Resort.
To reach it you take a three minute boat ride from the mainland. The
Sonaisali would get our vote for the best service of all the places we stayed and we
thoroughly recommend their wonderful buffet breakfasts! |
There is little to do on the island, but we enjoyed just relaxing in
luxury after our sailing. The hotel do organise many activities during the daytime
and the evening. We watched a fire walking demonstration one evening - but
unfortunately didn't take the cameras! As you can see though, we did have the cameras
ready for the beautiful sunsets, taken from the beach, which was just outside our room. |
