New York
World Trade Centre |
After the blue skies of San Francisco, New York
was grey and wet. Our base for the New York leg was the lovely old Algonquin Hotel,
not far from Times Square. On the first morning we bought tickets for the
sightseeing bus and set off to see the City. Our first stop was the World Trade
Centre and we headed up to the top - the views were good - but would have been better on a
brighter day! |

Next we walked through Battery Park and caught the Staten Island Ferry,
there and back again, to see the views of the Statue of Liberty and
Manhattan. |

We've decided that New York looks it's best at night when the lights
come on. That said, there are certainly interesting buildings both old and new worth
looking at in daylight, the Guggenheim Museum below, we think, is one of them.

By
our last day the weather had improved, and we headed up the Empire State Building for the
views over Manhattan and the outer boroughs. The blue skies had brought everyone else
out too and the queues were horrendous. Still, the views were great so it was worth
the waiting. |

Chrysler Building |
Our favourite New York landmark is the Chrysler Building, which seems to
shimmer with silver when the sun shines on it. It's interesting and attractive
design makes it stand out among the other concrete boxes on the skyline. |

Central Park |
We spent the last few hours of our trip taking it easy with a stroll
through Central Park. Unfortunately we then had to hurry back to the hotel to meet
our pick-up as a taxi was impossible to get hold of. |

From the hotel we set off for the least exciting (thirteenth!) flight of
the trip. Back Home. |
