Standing right by the Thames, the Tower of London is one of the most famous buildings
in the world. Building began during the first months of the reign of William the
Conqueror. The castle saw various changes and additions over the centuries and has
played a great role in British history. What with it's famous inhabitants,
prisoners, torture, beheadings and a seemingly endless list of intrigues, it has a
fascinating story to tell. Now, it houses, among other attractions, the Crown Jewels.
Over two and a half million people visit each year. I like to take the river
boat from Westminster pier down to the Tower, it's an interesting trip with a different
view of several of London's famous sights. For more detailed information and more
pictures on the Tower and the other Royal buildings I'd recommend the Historic Royal Palaces website. |
