Alice Dawson
Alice was born in Newbiggin in August 1871. She was one of seven children born to
Jane (nee Armstrong) and Robert Dawson and like her
brothers and sisters she was Christened at St. Bartholomew's Church. Her siblings were
William John (1860 - 1936) Robert (1862 - 1931), Jane Isabella (1864 - 1867), Edward
(b.1867), Jane Isabella (b.1869) and Bartholomew Redford Dawson (1874 - 1939).
Alice's sister Jane Isabella is also one of my Great
Grandmothers, this time on my father's side.
Alice died in Newbiggin in January 1940.

Robert Dent Armstrong
(1906 -1960)
|
Edward and Alice were married in June 1899 at the Register Office in
Morpeth. Alice was the widow of Edward's elder brother William
John D. T. Armstrong
who had died in 1897 leaving her with a baby daughter, Ellen Jane.
Edward and Alice had four children of their own; Edward, Robert, Mary
Alice, and a second
Robert - the first having died at about two months old.
Edward Dent Armstrong (1900 - 1944) married Violet Booth, they had two sons; John and
Stephen.
Mary Alice Dent Armstrong (1904 - 1979) married Robert Armstrong and had two daughters;
Grace and Jean.
Robert Dent Armstrong (1906 - 1960) married Jane Ann "Jean" Fawden, they had two
children; John and Lilian.
Edward and Robert continued the practise of giving their children the middle name of Dent.

Armstrong and Taylor Women
|
The older woman in the middle of this photo is thought to be Alice Armstrong, nee
Dawson. On her right is her daughter Mary Alice, on her left is Mary Ann Taylor, the
woman on the far left of the picture who is only partially visible is possibly Mary Ann's
mother. Also shown is Willie Taylor, but who the baby is, we don't know. The
photograph would probably have been taken during the 1930's
